Rs. 29-crore arrears released

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Government has released a sum of Rs. 29 crores towards payment of salary arrears for municipal employees and workers in 75 municipalities.

Andhra Pradesh Municipal Workers and Employees Union president K. Venkateswarlu and general secretary Paladugu Bhaskar in a press note issued here said civic staff would not get their salaries, which were not paid for the last 10 months. The Union had last month given a notice that it would be forced to launch an agitation if the backlog salaries were not paid. Subsequently, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy held a meeting with the Union representatives and officials where it was decided that the salaries wages would be cleared. The Union decided to take out a rally on April 7.
