BELLARY: The Bellary district committee of CPI(M) has condemned the recent murder of Janata Dal (S) activist Syed Mujib and urged the Government to initiate action against anti-social elements. The committee, which met at Hospet, expressed deep concern over the killings in the city and the failure of the law-enforcing machinery in dealing firmly with anti-social elements who were taking shelter in and around the city. It urged the Government to form a squad to assist the district administration to tackle anti-social elements. U. Basavaraj, district secretary, in a press release, said the committee had also appealed to all elected representatives, including Ministers, to pressure the Government to take steps to free the city from "supari" killers and rowdy elements. B. Sriramulu, Minister for Tourism, instead of staging a dharna in public, should raise the issue in the Cabinet and in the Assembly, the committee said.
