`We need inspiration'

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The newly elected Chairman of the Legislative Council, B.K. Chandrashekar, on Thursday drew an interesting analogy between the state of the Indian cricket team and the present political situation.

"The encouragement given to our cricket team while going to the West Indies (for the World Cup) and the insult meted out to our cricketers after they failed at the initial stage itself is very relevant at this juncture," he said.

"Our politics is also like a cricket series. We are in a transition period. Victory and defeat are not important here. We need inspiration," he remarked.

Prof. Chandrashekar's wife, Lakshmi Chandrashekar, and two brothers watched his election from the visitors' gallery.

Ms. Chandrashekar, a lecturer and an actor, came in for special praise from several MLCs who observed that she was behind the success of her husband.
