State to get additional power

Technical clearance for Palar dam secured

HYDERABAD: The Central Government has increased the allocation of power to the State from the unallocated quota of the Central generating stations of the Southern Region.

The allocation has been revised from the existing 274 MW to 407 MW from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., to 359 MW (6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.) and to 317 MW (6 p.m. to 10 p.m.), according to an official press release.

The release cited the existing power supply position in the Southern States for the revision and quoted a letter written by a Union Power Ministry official to chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority. The CEA has been asked to implement the allocation with immediate effect.

The allocation which was higher compared to Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu was subject to the condition that the beneficiaries enhance/ maintain letter of credit commensurate to the allocated power, the letter stipulated.

Tirupati Special Correspondent writes: Meanwhile, technical clearance for the Rs.45-crore. minor irrigation dam across the Palar in the backward mandal of Kuppam, 180 km from Tirupati, at the confluence of State,Tamil Nadu and Karnataka borders has been granted, it is reliably learnt.

The fate of the dam has been hanging fire following serious objections raised by the Tamil Nadu Government against the State Government proceeding unilaterally. Land survey

Meanwhile, Chittoor district administration has completed a joint survey taken up to ascertain the extent of forest and revenue lands that are likely to be submerged with the construction of the 0.5 tmc capacity dam.

The survey, according to reports, indicated that the dam in its wake would affect 250 acres of forest and 234 acres of revenue lands, besides leaving 60 families to be rehabilitated.
