BERHAMPUR: Preparations are nearing completion for the biennial Thakurani Jatra commencing April 7. Construction of a makeshift temple as per norms at Desibehera Street was almost complete. City's deity `Budhi Thakurani' would be kept there during the festival period. Hereditary craftsman of the temple Dasarathi Moharana was involved in the construction activity. The temple was being built using casuarinas logs and leaves.
Special meeting
The makeshift temple has to stand on eleven poles and its plinth has to be square having each side of 17.6 feet length. As per the traditional this makeshift temple has a height of 11 feet. Brick wall of seven feet height would also be constructed on three sides of this makeshift temple. The pedestal on which the `Ghatam' representing the deity would be placed would have a height of 20 inches. DIG, southern range, Arun Kumar Ray convened a special meeting to discuss about the measures to be taken during the festival period.
