Five integrated hostels for Medak district

`All students of weaker sections to be under one roof'

  • Collector offers to take up entry for Dalits in temples

    Sangareddy: Minister for Tourism J.Geetha Reddy who participated in the birth centenary celebrations of Babu Jagjivan Ram here on Thursday announced that the State Government has decided to open integrated hostels that bring students of all weaker sections under one roof. Medak will have five integrated hostels one each in Toopran, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Narayankhed and Zaheerabad or Kalher for Minority students.

    Cohesion in society

    The Minister addressing the meeting organised by the Social Welfare Department said that efforts

    are being made to bring in more cohesion in the society than segregating people. She said that students of SC, ST, BC communities would be staying together in the integrated hostels. She pointed out that the Government is pondering on the issue of raising the cash prize to Rs. 50,000 for inter-caste marriages.

    District Collector B.Venkatesam called upon the SC community to come forward to eradicate untouchability from Medak.

    Temple entry

    He offered to take up entry for Dalits in temples and provide necessary police protection provided the local community takes up the issue.

    He also cautioned Government officials allegedly involved in misappropriation of funds meant for the Dalits that severe action would be initiated if they were found to be guilty. Zilla Parishad Chairman M. Balaiah and representatives of several Dalit organisations spoke .
