CUTTACK: The anti-corruption wing of the State police has filed charge-sheets against six government officials, including an OAS officer, for alleged misappropriation of government money, acceptance of illegal gratification and possessing disproportionate assets.

According to vigilance sources, a charge-sheet was filed against one Bishnupada Grahacharya, an OAS officer, for allegedly misappropriating government money to the tune of Rs. 61, 79,240 by tampering cheques issued in favour of non-existent beneficiaries under Indira Awas Yojna. A case was registered against the officer in May 2004 while he was serving as BDO of Hatdihi block in Keonjhar district.

Similarly, a charge-sheet was filed against Bhuban Mohan Dash, former area manger of Markfed in Ganjam district, for alleged misappropriation of Rs. 1, 31,545 by producing false utility certificate.

After investigation, prima facie evidences were established against him and charge-sheet was filed under several sections of the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act, sources said.

Charge-sheets were also filed against two police officers - Krushna Chandra Pradhan and Pramod Kumar Rana - for allegedly receiving illegal gratification and possession of disproportionate assets respectively. Both would now stand trial in the court of law, the sources added.

Another charge-sheet was filed in connection with possession of disproportionate assets against Baikunthnath Chand, former deputy manager of IDCO.

While serving in Angul in December 2002, vigilance sleuths unearthed properties worth over Rs. 11 lakhs allegedly from the official's residence.

In another case, anti-corruption wing personnel recovered Rs. 2, 19,000 from the vehicle of one Purna Chandra Kishan, assistant road transport officer of Jharsuguda district in April 2006.

A case was registered against him in June 2006. After completion of investigation, prima facie evidence was established against the officer and a charge-sheet was filed under several sections of the PC Act, the sources said.
