Special Correspondent

Tejendra Khanna

NEW DELHI: Tejendra Khanna was on Thursday appointed Lieutenant-Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, replacing B. L. Joshi who has been shifted to Meghalaya, according to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué here.

Mr. Khanna, a 1961 batch IAS officer of Punjab cadre, returns as Delhi's L-G after nearly a decade. He was the L-G of Delhi for over a year during 1997-98. He had chaired a committee to suggest guidelines for the unauthorised constructions in the Capital and some of his key recommendations have been included in the new Master Plan for Delhi-2021.

Mr. Joshi had not been keeping well for some time and was said to be reluctant to continue as Delhi's L-G.

He will replace M. M. Jacob at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong. The appointments of both Mr. Joshi and Mr. Khanna would take effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices, the communiqué said.
