NEW DELHI: After the Delhi Metro railway and the High Capacity Bus System corridor, monorail seems set to be the next addition to the Capital's much-talked about multi-modal transport system. Even as a feasibility study is on for introduction of monorail, if things go well, the tender for the project is expected to be floated by December this year. "The feasibility report will be submitted by September," said Delhi Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf. "Meanwhile, we have identified two corridors in the trans-Yamuna area and one corridor in the Walled City for the introduction of the project," he added. "The feasibility study is being done by the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS)," said State Transport Department official. DIMTS is a special purpose vehicle that was formed and is responsible for implementation of the various multi-modal transport projects in the Capital. According to the Minister, once the feasibility report is submitted, tenders for the project could be floated by December this year. "From then on, the project will take about 18 months to finish," he said. The cost of construction for the monorail project is expected to be around Rs. 45 crore per km.
