VIJAYAWADA: Brace up for a regular power cut of two hours a day from Friday. The problem that has been confined to rural areas till now has spread to urban areas too. The officials of the Southern Power Distribution Company Limited said on Thursday that a sudden rise in consumption and inadequate availability had forced them to announce the power cut from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. every day, starting Friday. Divisional Engineer (Town) Mohan Krishna said that the consumption in the town limits had gone up to 2 million units a day, as a result of which a two-hour power cut was felt necessary to ensure supply during the remaining hours. A power cut of up to four hours a day was already under implementation in surrounding rural areas, he pointed out.
