Blatant violation

Former Prime Minister V.P. Singh has done well to demand that the Election Commission derecognise the BJP for distributing a compact disc containing inflammatory campaign material spreading poison against the minorities.

The BJP's communal propaganda is a blatant attempt to subvert the Constitution. The party has always treated Muslims and Christians as second-class citizens. The CD is a national shame. Stringent action should be taken against the BJP that is making all-out efforts to divide peaceful India.

S. Mahaboob Basha,
Adoni

The release of the CD containing inflammatory material is a cheap way of luring voters.

The party that has always claimed to be different and swears by patriotism has placed the nation's peace and communal harmony at threat. Everything seems to be fair in politics.

Shashikant Singh,
Roorkee

Criticising political opponents is a democratic norm but spreading hate against other communities is a downright insult to the Indian Constitution and the values of the freedom movement.

The BJP, while paying lip service to democracy, has been using democratic space cleverly to advance its agenda of opposing democracy and secularism.

One knows only too well that even though the BJP has withdrawn the CD, it must have already found its way to the community through its tentacles spread all over. It is hoped that the Election Commission will deal with the issue firmly.

Ram Puniyani,
Mumbai

The BJP, its earlier incarnation the Jana Sangh, and the RSS have always been votaries of hate against the minorities, especially Muslims.

From Golwalkar to Narendra Modi and Praveen Togadia, their pronouncements have been similar to the sentiments expressed in the CD distributed during the election campaign.

One wonders why the BJP is recognised as a political party in the first place. It believes in neither secularism nor democracy. Its political philosophy of cultural nationalism is a shame on our civilisation.

Ashok Lal,
Gurgaon

The communal BJP has once again tried to vitiate the atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh.

It should desist from indulging in such ugly propaganda and fight the elections on relevant issues in a constructive manner.

Bishal Das,
New Delhi
