NEW DELHI: Unruffled by competition from compatriots BMW and Audi, German luxury car maker DaimlerChrysler on Friday said it was confident of maintaining its leadership position in India and planned to expand the product portfolio in future. "The premium car market in India is growing fast and we are confident of maintaining our leadership position. Last year, we had 11 per cent growth and this year already we have posted strong growth in the fist quarter,'' DaimlerChrysler India CEO and Managing Director Wilfried Aulbur told reporters here. He said competition from the likes of BMW and Audi would help expand the market though. "The market is big enough for more than one player,'' he added. The company introduced its new S-Class model, priced at Rs. 72.73 lakh, and a luxury coupe, CL Class, tagged at Rs. 1.20-1.70 crore. Mr. Aulbur said that by the "beginning of next year the company will be rolling out its new C-Class model in India.'' Last year, the company had clocked sales of 2,121 units, up 11 per cent from the previous year. In the first quarter of this calendar, the company sold 690 units in the domestic market that included 95 units of S-class, 352 units of E-class and 226 units of C-class. PTI
