Transco engineer attacked

Staff Reporter

KADAPA: A power defaulter Balaji of Galiveedu and his accomplices allegedly attacked APSPDCL assistant engineer Kondaiah in his office at Rayachoti on Thursday night.

Balaji visited the AE's office on Thursday evening regarding power supply being disconnected at his house two days ago. The AE reminded Balaji of his electricity arrears to the tune of Rs. 22,000. He made it clear that reconnection would be done if the defaulter agreed to pay at least a part of his power bill dues.

Balaji reportedly returned with some accomplices and attacked the AE with sticks. The injured AE was admitted to Rayachoti Government hospital.

Condemning the attack, Transco staff snapped power supply to Rayachoti town for about one-and-a-half-hour on Thursday night and staged a rasta roko near the checkpost. They gave up protest after Rayachoti police initiated talks with DE Suresh Kumar and ADE Rajasekhara Reddy and assured stern action against the culprits.
