BUDA to allot 300 residential sites

  • Meeting approves Rs. 43.8-lakh surplus budget
  • Rs. 7 crore earmarked for land acquisition for new layouts

    BIJAPUR: The Bijapur Urban Development Authority (BUDA) plans to distribute 300 residential sites in the current financial year. This is the first time, since its inception in 1980s, that the authority is making plans to distribute such a high number of sites in a year.

    The BUDA Commissioner B.C. Poojari tabled the annual budget for 2007-08 in the governing body meeting presided over by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mohsin, who is also ex-officio president of the authority. The meeting approved the Rs. 43.8-lakh surplus budget unanimously, according to press release issued by Mr. Poojari here on Friday.

    The BUDA expects revenue of Rs. 18.04 crore, including Rs. 9.66 crore through sale of residential and commercial sites.

    It has an opening deposit of Rs. 2.7 crore in its current account apart from having an investment of Rs. 4.2 crore mostly term deposits. Its earning in the form of interest will be Rs. 55 lakh. A sum of Rs. 7 crore has been earmarked for land acquisition for new layouts. It plans to spend Rs. 3.45 crore on drains and streetlights in different colonies besides Rs. 50 lakh each for beautification of city and roadwork.

    The urban body proposes to build a commercial complex at the cost of Rs. 50 lakh near Bal Bhavan in Kanakadasa Badavane here.

    Also, it plans to take up development activities in private layouts, for which Rs. 2.86 crore has been allocated. Besides, Rs. 1.31 crore is given for construction of buildings coming up as part of its development schemes that is being executed here.

    The BUDA has to contribute Rs. 3.5 crore for ADB-assisted drainage improvement projects.

    It is calculated that Rs. 83.2 lakhs is needed for establishment charges mostly salary component of staff and vehicle maintenance.
