BELLARY: A circle at Sudha Cross here was named after Babu Jagjivan Ram to mark his birth centenary celebrations here on Thursday. A procession carrying his portrait was taken out on the occasion. Presiding over the function that followed, Deputy Commissioner Arvind Srivastav said all efforts must be made to ensure that the lives of the poor were improved by making use of the welfare measures announced by the Government. H. Hanumanthappa, chairman of the Raichur, Bellary and Koppal Milk Producers' Federation, who was the chief guest, urged people to follow the ideals of Babu Jagjivan Ram and B.R. Ambedkar. He also wanted elected representatives to participate in such functions. C.M. Shirol, chief executive officer of the Bellary Zilla Panchayat, inaugurated the function.
Unveiled
He also unveiled a plaque at the circle that was named after Jagjivan Ram. The programme was organized by the district administration in association with the Social Welfare Department.
