Rs. 10 cr. each for four civic bodies

Funds to be used for improving infrastructure


  • Rs. 2.75 crore sanctioned for drinking water
  • Rs 25. lakh for installation of high-mast lights

    BELLARY: The State Government has released Rs. 10 crore to each of the four civic bodies — Bellary and Gulbarga Municipal Corporations and Hassan and Mandya Town Municipal Councils, according to Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure Development B. Sriramulu.

    Addressing presspersons here on Friday, he said the funds would be utilised for improving the infrastructure.

    In Bellary, the funds would be used for laying of roads (Rs. 3.5 crore), drinking water (Rs. 2.75 crore), stormwater drains (Rs. 1.5 crore), street lights (Rs. 1.5 crore), development of five circles (Rs. 50 lakh) and installation of high-mast lights (Rs. 25 lakh), he said.

    According to him, this was for the first time in the recent past that the Government had released such a huge sum for developing infrastructure in the municipal corporation area.

    Foundation day

    Earlier, he hoisted the party flag at the district unit office of Bharatiya Janata Party here to mark the foundation day of the party.

    Speaking on the occasion, G. Somashekar Reddy, president of the district unit of the BJP, called upon the party workers to strive hard for the success of the party in the coming elections to the urban local bodies.

    Members present

    Y. Thimmareddy, general secretary, and Mrutyunjaya Jinaga, organising secretary, spoke.

    Shivaram Reddy, former MLA, Venkat Mahipal, Ramachandraiah and Guttiganur Virupakshagowda, were among the party leaders present. Padmavati, president of the BJP district Mahila Morcha, welcomed the gathering.
