BJP opposes quota for minorities

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday condemned the State Government's decision to provide separate reservation for Muslims and Christians.

L. Ganesan, who hoisted the party flag at the headquarters here to mark the foundation day of the BJP, reiterated his party's opposition to reservation in education and employment on communal lines.

Questioning the rationale behind the move, Mr. Ganesan argued that it was a myth that the Muslims had not been given concessions.

He contended that most of the Muslims had generally been covered under reservation.

If the quota was to be given on the ground that there were economically weaker sections in the communities, why not the same principle could be adopted for the Hindus, he asked.
