We have shown how to fill the treasury, says Yediyurappa

Special Correspondent

`Revenue collection increased by Rs. 1,850 crore in one year'

  • Hanging bridge across the Malathi between Bheemanakatte and Savali opened
  • `Government has earmarked Rs. 10 crore for construction of hanging bridges'

SHIMOGA: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said on Friday that people had been kept in the dark for the past 60 years with regard to development works for want of honesty on the part of political parties that ruled the State.

Speaking at a meeting at Kugge in Tirthahalli taluk after launching development works to be implemented at a cost of Rs. 8 crore, he said the coalition Government had shown how to fill the State's treasury and to use funds for development.

He said it was because of honest efforts, the revenue had collection increased by Rs. 1,850 crore in one year. "Why was it not possible for previous governments?" he asked.

    Concern

Mr. Yediyurappa said waiving crop loan, extending crop loan at four per cent interest and increasing the widow pension money were some of the programmes that spoke of Government's concern for the poor and neglected sections of society.

Inaugurating a hanging bridge built across the Malathi between Bheemanakatte and Savali at a cost of Rs. 25 lakh, he said the Government had earmarked Rs. 10 crore for construction of hanging bridges wherever necessary.

Participating in the Bala Mela organised at Ranjadakatte, Mr. Yediyurappa asked the Malnad Area Development Board to release Rs. 3 lakh and MLA Araga Jnanendra to release Rs. 2 lakh from the MLA's local area development fund for construction of a Samudaya Bhavan by the local Stree Shakthi Sangha.

Chairman of the Malnad Area Development Board A.S. Padmanabh Bhat said though the proposal for the hanging bridge was approved six years ago, it was not taken up as the Government did not release funds.

Mr. Jnanendra presided over the function.
