Build permanent bridge at Manakudi

Staff Reporter

Nagercoil: The Master Trust, a non-governmental organisation based at Kothaigramam village near Nagercoil has urged the Government to construct a permanent bridge between Keeza and Mela Manakudi, which was washed away in the tsunami.

The Director of the Trust, Tho. Nainar, said that the bridge across Pazhayar River connecting Mela and Keeza Manakudi villages, affected the vehicular traffic. Absence of the bridge forced the people to take a circuitous route of more than 12 kilometers.

However the Government immediately took steps for providing a temporary steel bridge at a cost of Rs. 1.40 crores. A permanent bridge has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs. 9 crore. The trust wants the Government to expedite the process of building a permanent bridge at the earliest.
