Constable run over by Blueline bus

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A 55-year-old Delhi Police Head Constable was killed when a Blueline bus ran over him at Tilak Marg here on Saturday. The bus driver and the attendant abandoned the vehicle and vanished from the scene.

According to the police, the accident took place around 8-30 a.m. Head Constable Harbans Singh was getting off the bus -- plying between Old Delhi railway station and Mehrauli -- near the High Court when the vehicle suddenly started moving. He fell on the road and came under the rear wheels. He died on the spot. Post-mortem was conducted at Lohia Hospital and the body was handed over to the relatives in the afternoon. Harbans, who is survived by his wife and five children, was posted with the Court security.

His colleagues said like any other day, Harbans came to the Tilak Marg police station to collect his service weapon on Saturday morning and left for the High Court. "We were shocked when we heard the news," said a policeman. The police have registered a case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving and launched a hunt for the erring driver.
