CHENNAI: Rotary Club of Madras on Saturday launched a two-day job fair at Rajah Muthiah Hall in Egmore. Over 35 companies have put up stalls.

C. Umashankar, managing director, ELCOT, who inaugurated the fair, said students must make the most of such opportunities to try and understand the industry demands. He pointed out that the country was going through a period of change due to increasing employment opportunities.

To a question whether it was a healthy trend for students to get employed in the services sector, leading to a lack of innovative entrepreneurship, Mr. Umashankar said it would be difficult to get investors or venture capitalists to back innovations right now. "The economy is on a growth curve. That needs to stabilise to create a `knowledge society' where basic necessities of food, shelter and clothing are met. Only then will innovations come to the fore."

Organisers have arranged sessions on Sunday, including one on resume writing.
