KOLKATA:
Following a meeting of the Left Front Committee here on Saturday, its chairman Biman Bose issued an appeal to all the parties, including the Opposition, to participate in the all-party meetings being organised at Nandigram in an attempt to restore peace and normality in the area.
The main Opposition parties in West Bengal including the Trinamool Congress and the Congress had earlier boycotted an all-party meeting convened by the State Government at Nandigram on Tuesday. The meeting was the first since the police firing there on March 14 and the subsequent violence that had claimed 14 lives.
Assurance
Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has assured the Left Front constituents that steps were being taken to restore the confidence of the people and to clear misgivings about the police firing, while efforts were on to connect with various organisations to renew the political and social initiative to normalise the situation.
A decision was also taken to convene a meeting of the Left Front at the Purbo Medinipur district level.
