TDFA clinches title

Sivakasi: Tuticorin District Football Association lifted the Vinothakumar Memorial Trophy defeating Reserve Bank of India, Chennai 5-4 via sudden death in the final of the 31st annual State-level football tournament here on Sunday. At the regulation time, the teams were locked goalless.

In the tiebreaker, the teams scored four goals each. Bruston, Praveen, Naveen and Dinesh scored for Tuticorin while Kannan, Rajan, Madhuvarman, and Devanathan scored for Reserve Bank. In the sudden death, Muppidari succeeded for Tuticorin, while Dinakaran failed to convert for the bankmen.

Velmurugan scalps six

Mediumpacer Velmurugan's six for 18 helped Spark Cricket Club carve out a six-wicket victory over SBOA Cricket Club in the MDCA first division `A' zone league at Madurai on Sunday.

The scores:

First division `A' zone: SBOA CC 61 in 18.3 overs (Velmurugan six for 18) lost to Spark CC 62 for four in 13.2 overs. `B' zone: Eleven Stars CC 224 in 44.2 overs (Venkatesh 46, Suresh 63) bt Supersonic CC 215 for nine in 45 overs (Shamugasundar 51, Rajavel four for 28).

Second division: Stalwarts CC 159 in 26.2 overs (Sivakumar 45) bt Canara Bank CC 123 in 23.5 overs.
