Four Indians in semifinals

New Delhi: In their best-ever performance, four Indian pugilists advanced to the semifinals in various weight categories ensuring as many medals in the Kings Cup boxing championships in Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday.

National Games champion Narjit Singh thrashed Sing Yeung Hong Kong by referee stopped the contest in second round (RSC (OS)-II) in 54 kg division quarterfinal bout.

Compatriot Dinesh Kumar outpunched local hope Keangki Suk Koum in a similar manner through RSC (OS)-III in 81 kg class.

However, in an interesting quarterfinal bout last on Saturday, Vijender upset local hero Olympic bronze medallist Suriya Prasarthinphimai to enter the semifinals of 75 kg category. Vijender scored a convincing 23-10 victory over the Thai.

In another bout, Jitender thumped Kim Dae Sung of South Korea to move into the last four stage of 51 kg class in the championship. — PTI
