NEW DELHI: Punjab earned glory and Delhi suffered ignominy on home ground as the north Zone inter-Sate Twenty20 cricket tournament came to a close here on Sunday. Punjab defeated Jammu and Kashmir by ten wickets to top the zone while Delhi, playing without Virender Sehwag, lost to Services by seven runs.
Haryana second
Haryana, with a nine-wicket win over Himachal Pradesh, claimed the second spot. Tahir Khan (70 off 60 balls with six fours and one six) and left-arm spinner S.S. Karmakar (four for 18) scripted Services' win over Delhi while Sunny Singh (65 not out off 45 balls with eight fours and three sixes) steered Haryana to an easy win over Himachal Pradesh. The final placings: 1. Punjab, 2. Haryana, 3. Himachal Pradesh, 4. Haryana, 5. Delhi, 6. Jammu and Kashmir. The knockout stage of the tournament is scheduled to be held in Mumbai and Ahmedabad later this month. The scores: Services 132 for eight in 20 overs (Tahir Khan 70, Mithun Manhas three for 33) beat Delhi 125 in 19.5 overs (Shikhar Dhawan 34, S.S. Karmakar four for 18, Fazil Mohammad three for 30). HP 113 in 19.2 overs (Sarandeep Singh 30) lost to Haryana 114 for one in 13.5 overs (Sunny Singh 65 n.o.). J&K 98 in 19.2 overs (V.R.V. Singh three for 16) lost to Punjab 98 for no loss in 16.1 overs (Karan Goel 53 n.o., Ravneet Ricky 39 n.o.).
