New traffic system near Raj Bhavan from April 15

One-way regulations, major restrictions will come into place


CHENNAI : A major change in the traffic system near the Raj Bhavan-Sardar Patel Road stretch, including one-way regulation, will come into force on April 15, police announced on Sunday.

According to the plan, the stretch of Anna Salai from Halda Junction (Alexander Square) to Little Mount junction will become a one-way with entry only from the Halda junction.

Vehicles coming on Anna Salai from Guindy and bound for Adyar or Velachery via S.P. Road will continue up to Little Mount junction and take a right into Taluk Office Road (Saidapet courts road). At the end of the stretch, they will turn left at S.P. Road to reach Adyar, or right at Raj Bhavan Main Gate Junction to go to Velachery. From S.P. Road they can take a left turn into Velachery High Road.

Vehicles coming on Anna Salai from Saidapet and proceeding towards Guindy or Velachery will turn into Taluk Office Road at Little Mount Junction and reach Halda Junction/Velachery Junction by taking a right turn at Raj Bhavan Main Gate.

The Taluk Office Road will be declared one-way with an entry from Little Mount Junction.

Vehicles proceeding on S.P. Road from Adyar and intending to proceed on Taluk office Road towards Little Mount Junction will, under the new plan, turn right at Halda Junction into Anna Salai.

The stretch of Velachery High Road from Little Mount Junction to S.P. Road junction will continue to be one-way with entry from Little Mount Junction. Vehicles will not be allowed to proceed towards Velachery on this road; they can only take a right turn on S.P. Road.

Vehicles intending to proceed straight on the same stretch towards Velachery, will turn right on S.P Road to Halda Junction, take a left on Anna Salai, and again take a left before the Guindy Bridge, and the proceed via Race Course Road and Five Furlong Road to reach Velachery High Road.

The stretch of S.P. Road from Raj Bhavan Main Gate junction to Halda Junction will be one-way from Raj Bhavan Main Gate Junction to Halda Junction.

From Velachery

Vehicles coming on Velachery High Road from either side (from Little Mount junction or from Vijay Nagar junction) and intending to proceed on S.P. Road towards Raj Bhavan Main Gate Junction will hereafter take a left or right on S.P. Road towards Halda Junction and proceed accordingly, the press release said.
