Stolen jewels recovered and returned

TIRUCHI: A. Jagadeesan, a city college professor, got back the entire jewellery — 128 sovereigns in all — burgled from his residence at Crawford here four months ago. A widow, Narayani (87) of Srirangam was robbed of her jewellery on January 22. The jewels were returned to her daughter-in-law, R. Indira.

Totally 235 sovereigns of gold jewellery were returned to 13 persons at a function here on Monday. Fifteen stolen motorcycles were also returned to the owners.The Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, M. S. Jaffar Sait, who returned the property to the owners, appealed to those going out of station to inform the nearest police station to ensure safe custody of their property and valuables. Each police station maintained `Locked door register' for the same, he said.

Martin alias Mathew Martin alias Mathew Christy Martin, a 25-year-old dropout of a city college, had allegedly committed the burglaries. Action was being taken to detain him under the Goondas Act.

Mr. Sait said that vital technical clues from the Vehicle Tracking System led to the arrest of four others and the recovery of two-wheelers.
