NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday launched a new portal of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi that hopefully would immensely simplify the property tax payment procedure for property owners in the Capital, making the complicated manual form a thing of the past. The portal is also expected to benefit more than 8 lakh property owners in assessment, calculation and online payment of tax under the Unit Area System based on self-assessment. At a simple function organised at Delhi Secretariat, Ms. Dikshit also launched a portal of the State Technical Education Department that would strengthen the links between all stakeholders and provide easy job options. This portal, www.deltechplacements.com, has been developed to enable better placements for students passing out of various technical education institutions under the Technical Education and Training Department. It is expected that the job portal would increase the availability of jobs for students passing out from technical education institutions by attracting more companies. The operation of the portal will also give an idea about the extent of demand for courses offered by various institutions, which in turn will help in restructuring and revamping of the courses. The institutions that would be covered by the job portal include degree level institutions like the Delhi College of Engineering and NSIT, eight polytechnics and 15 Industrial Training Institutes. The job portal is expected to not only help students in getting jobs but also finding better companies as prospective employees. It would also fulfil the information needs of human resource managers in companies with respect to data on passing out students, institutions and courses taught and provide companies with the facility of access to this data. Ms. Dikshit announced that the portal would be an addition to the online counselling system which was introduced for allocation of disciplines to about 30,000 students who appeared for the Common Entrance Test-2006. The online counselling system had eased the process of discipline selection for students and made the whole process transparent. The Chief Minister said arrangements had also been made in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation to start an edusat facility for connecting various educational institutions, thereby helping overcome the acute shortage of technical education teachers. The edusat facility will make available to students the best of teaching resources from across the country. As for the MCD's property tax website, it has been launched with the objective of achieving assignment of Unique Property Identification Code for each property in Delhi and placement of Municipal Assessment Book on the Internet in keeping with the provisions of the DMC (Amendment) Act, 2003. The site, mcdpropertytax.in, would make it easy to calculate the tax to be paid by the property owners through an easy-to-use interface. Also, people will be able to pay the tax through credit cards in addition to other modes of payment. A unique code will be assigned to each property and all future references will be made using this code. Efforts are now also being made to make this portal bi-lingual.
