BANGALORE: The Department of Science and Technology of the Centre has selected the State for implementing the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for collecting all kinds of data in 27 districts at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crore. Minister for Science and Technology Ramachandra Gowda told presspersons here on Tuesday that the Karnataka State Council and Science and Technology (KSCST) would implement the project on a pilot basis in the next one year to create district level geo-spatial data centres in all districts of the State. The data would provide science and technology inputs for planning at the local level, he said. Under the project, a State-level geo-portal, connecting all districts, would be created. National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) at the national level envisaged providing collated geo-spatial data to users. Mr. Gowda said the creation of Karnataka State Spatial Data Infrastructure (KSSDI) would bring transparency in public spending, optimise the utility of scarce resources and create basic information for good governance. The data would be a single point of source of all geo-spatial infrastructure. Asked about geographical information survey (GIS) undertaken by Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike, officials of the KSCST said survey had been completed in 30 wards. The survey in the rest of the wards would be completed in the next three years, they said.
