Thiruvananthapuram
After nearly two-and-half years of yeoman service as head of the Thiruvananthapuram District Court, the District and Sessions Judge D. Pappachan is all set to take up his new assignment as the Registrar, Vigilance, at the High Court in Kochi on April 20. Mr. Pappachan will leave office here on Friday. A native of Karunagappally and settled in Eranakulam, Mr. Pappachan started his judicial service as a second class magistrate at Vadakara, Kozhikode, in 1979. He has served as district judge for 14 years in various parts of the State. Mr. Pappachan, who is also the chairman of the District Legal Services Authority and Mental Health Monitoring Committee, has played a significant role in spreading legal awareness and dispelling some of the prevailing misconceptions in the minds of the people about some of the archaic laws relating to family disputes. He has also taken the initiative in settling a number of cases relating to public utility services such as transport, hospital, postal, telegraph, power and water through Lok Adalat's held every second Saturday at the Vanchiyoor Court premises.
