It would be a Vishu with fireworks and noise, after all. Fireworks, an integral part of the fun and frolic of the festival, would not be denied, especially to the children. The district administration though is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that safety norms are followed to the dot, after the fire tragedy on Moideen Palli Road in Kozhikode.

The licences of firecracker shops had been withdrawn after the fire.

The authorities would allow sale of firecrackers in a specified area in the city, in strict conformity with the safety rules in force.

District Collector A. Jayathilak has permitted the sale of firecrackers at Swapna Nagari, and those who wished to carry on the trade were to make an application in writing.
