ANANTAPUR: The social awareness bicycle `yatra' launched by the forum of 75 organisations reached Singanamala in the district on Monday. The yatra commenced from Brahmamgari Matham in Kadapa district on April 6. Speaking at a meeting there, Balakashi of DYFI, Ramachandraiah of KVPS, Noor Mohammed of SFI, and others observed that the social and economic backwardness of Dalits is due to lack of awareness among them. Slavery, not allowing Dalits into temples, and two-tumbler system are all result of suppression of upper castes. They are still prevailing in most of the rural areas due to lack of awareness, illiteracy and ignorance among Dalits, they said. The activists participating in the yatra also ploughed some extent of the `regained' land.
