Letters to the Editor
The BJP has created unwanted controversy. First, it released an inflammatory compact disc as campaign material in Uttar Pradesh and then denied doing so. Now it is protesting too loudly to gain from negative publicity. The party should understand that unite and lead, and not divide and rule, is a better policy.
Vishaal Vyas,
M.S. Mohammed Thameezuddeen,
Had the CD issue not been exposed, would the BJP have restrained its cadres from using it in the U.P. elections? It would have surely used the contents to drum up and incite communal passions. Whether the Election Commission has the power to derecognise a party is for the Commission, not for the BJP or any other party, to decide.
George Easaw,
The BJP deserves to be de-recognised. Even if the ECI does not have the requisite power, suitable legislation should be enacted to give it teeth to deal with such issues.
S. Anand,
Preposterous gimmicks such as release of the CD are responsible for creating communal tensions. Where is the scope for equality in our country when political parties are bent on dividing it for their own benefit?
Priyanka Rao,
The CD is a national shame. We have to coexist with the minorities as they are equal citizens of the country. It is hoped the BJP will concentrate on national issues rather than embark on such cheap gimmicks.
M. Chalam,
The CD is without doubt meant to endanger India's unity in diversity for which it is highly respected. The Election Commission should derecognise the BJP at least for the next five years.
G.V.P. Pavan Kumar,
It would be too harsh if the ECI decides to derecognise the BJP. The party should be let off with a fine and warning.
The parties that are demanding that the BJP be derecognised should fight the battle as a political issue.
D.B.N. Murthy,
All parties should go to the electorate, convince the voters, and defeat the BJP in a democratic manner.
N.S. Rajagopalan,
