New D-G of CISF takes charge

NEW DELHI: Ranjit Kumar Das, a 1970 batch Indian Police Service officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, took over as the new Central Industrial Security Force Director-General on Tuesday. He replaces S.I.S. Ahmad, who has taken over as Director-General of the Central Reserve Police Force.

Mr. Das was earlier posted as the Intelligence Bureau Special Director. He has also served in the Special Protection Group.

Tax collection exceeds target

NEW DELHI: Delhi Finance Minister A. K. Walia on Tuesday said the State Trade and Tax Department once again exceeded the tax collection over the prescribed target for 2006-07.

Stating that the target of tax collection for the Department was Rs. 6,500 crore, he said it actually collected Rs. 6,624.57 crore that was 1.92 per cent more than the prescribed target for 2005-06. Similarly, in 2006-07, as against the target of Rs. 7,400 crore, the Department collected Rs. 7,597.24 crore, exceeding the target by 2.67 per cent.

DDA operations computerised

NEW DELHI: Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy on Tuesday launched the "Integrated Management System" (IMS) at Vikas Sadan here.

Through the system, the Delhi Development Authority aims to provide efficient service to citizens, increase transparency in its operations, efficient processing of papers, and allow Delhiites to access information about the Authority. All the DDA operations and functions have now come under the computerisation programme.

Exams begin

NEW DELHI: The April-May 2007 examinations of the National Institute of Open Schooling began this past Wednesday.

The intimation cards and hall tickets for the examinations have been despatched to all the eligible candidates at their residential address. However, in case the students have not received their hall tickets till now, they can download it from www.nios.ac.in, an NIOS release said on Tuesday.

School festival

NEW DELHI: The ten-day-long "Akhil Bharatiya Kala Utsav-2007" opened at Deep Memorial Public School in neighbouring Ghaziabad on April 4.

As part of the Utsav organised by the school, sculpture and painting camps are being held.

The valedictory functions of the two camps will be held at Ramprashta in Ghaziabad this Saturday.
