Centre's stand on Master Plan vindicated: Maken

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken on Tuesday said the Centre's stand on the new Master Plan for Delhi-2021 has been vindicated once again. This, he added, was borne out by the fact that the Supreme Court has asked for its reply on the time frame by which it would create adequate infrastructure facilities like water, parking and sanitation to meet the requirements of the Plan.

Stating that the Union Ministry would be filing its reply by May 7, the Minister said it had already worked on the time frame to a great extent and would be completing the entire exercise very soon.

"This (Court direction) has also exposed the Bharatiya Janata Party which has been criticising the Centre for bringing in the new Master Plan," he said, adding that the Plan was intended to provide planned development for Delhi and to address the needs of the people living in it.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, on its part, has demanded that the new Master Plan-2021 be "withdrawn" after being declared cancelled. Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan said that in view of the needs of Delhi a new Plan should be framed and implemented with the consent of the Supreme Court so that people might be able to get relief from sealing and demolition.

In a letter to Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy, Dr. Vardhan has also said that by defeating the Congress in the recent Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections, the people have rejected the Master Plan.
