Governor calls for regular monitoring of projects

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: Calling for a constant renewal of schemes to suit the changing needs of the people, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator S. F. Rodrigues on Tuesday asked senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration to do a periodical validation of the ongoing projects followed by immediate corrective measures to ensure their time-bound completion.

Gen. Rodrigues asked the officers to look ahead while formulating polices and programmes keeping in view the growing needs of the city and its people. The planning, monitoring and execution for each and every programme should be drawn up and implemented in a time-bound manner, he said.

Asserting that Chandigarh has a bright future, he called for participation by the citizens to make the City Beautiful a model to be replicated everywhere.

Speedy execution

Reviewing the progress of the works relating to Rajiv Gandhi Information Technology Park, he asked the Finance Secretary and Director IT to focus on the speedy execution of Phases I and II with simultaneous planning for Phase III.

Gen. Rodrigues also asked the bureaucrats to speed up the process of setting up of a modern terminal market and food park. He also reviewed the progress of the Education City and Theme Park projects in the Sarangpur area.

Later, Gen. Rodrigues held a meeting with the Union Territory Home Secretary, Krishna Mohan, and PGI Director Prof. K. K. Talwar to coordinate a programme of providing efficient healthcare services by integrating the PGI and the Chandigarh Union Territory Administration's two major hospitals and polyclinics to enhance their reach to the disadvantaged sections of society.
