BELGAUM: The Khade Bazaar Police have arrested a man who was wanted in 24 cases of vehicle theft registered in several police stations in north Karnataka, including in Belgaum, Hubli-Dharwad, Gadag, Dandeli, Haveri and Dandeli. The accused, identified as Rajesh Hirachand Chadda (32) of Hubli, had stolen 24 motorcycles. All the vehicles have been seized. According to Khade Bazaar Circle Police Inspector C.B. Patil, Rajesh was caught while riding a motorcycle without a number plate on Ramlingkhind Galli in the heart of the city about three days ago. A policeman on duty became suspicious and arrested him. On being questioned at the police station, he confessed to having stolen 24 motorbikes and selling them to unsuspecting individuals. He even stole the registration books from some vehicles and altered the entries. The police said the accused was a first time offender and operated alone without engaging anybody else in the crime. Rajesh, who is a B.Com graduate, had served as under officer in the National Cadet Corps (NCC), and has been living with his family. He worked in a well-known electrical parts-manufacturing company for two years.
