Petroleum dealers serve ultimatum

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Over 1,800 petrol outlets, including 250 in Bangalore, will be closed from the midnight of April 12 to the midnight of April 13 with petroleum dealers in Karnataka joining the nation-wide one-day protest demanding a fixed margin.

Bangalore Petroleum Dealers' Association president Bhushan Narang told presspersons here on Tuesday that dealers of public sector oil marketing companies would resort to an indefinite closure of outlets from April 28 if their demands were not met by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

The present commission of 55 paisa and 85 paisa per litre of diesel and petrol respectively, which accounted to 1.7 per cent of the fuel prices, had been affecting the interests of dealers.

Higher the fuel prices, higher the losses of dealers because of handling losses, including evaporation, Mr. Narang said.

The outlets in the State daily sold petrol and diesel worth Rs. 10 crore that included 30 per cent taxes with Bangalore alone accounting to Rs. 2.5 crore.

With dealers resorting to "no purchase and no sale" of all petroleum products for a day on April 13, governments are set to lose over Rs. 3 crore.

Association vice-presidents A.P. Vasupal and B.R. Ravindranath, secretary J. Uday Reddy and treasurer R. Srinivasan were present.
