Two-day management meet begins

WARANGAL: A two-day management student meet, organised by New Science College, began here on Tuesday. Over 1,600 students representing various management institutions of Warangal, Khammam and Karimnagar are participating in the event.

TDP leaders flay Babli lathicharge

ADILABAD: TDP Adilabad leaders on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Collector R. Subba Rao protesting beating up of party leaders at Dharmabad by the Maharashtra police. Suspected dowry death

Sangaredy: Parvathamma, 22, was found dead under suspicious conditions in Kothapalli village of Papannapet mandal on Monday night. According to Papannapet police Parvathamma's father Kishtaiah lodged a compliant that her husband Chandraiah had murdered his daughter who was a mother of one child. However, the husband Chandraiah told the police that his wife died in an accident involving a tractor. - Staff Reporter

`Surrender assigned lands by April 28'

Sangareddy: Medak Joint Collector Vani Mohan at a review meeting with the MROs, RDOs asked the officers to issue notices to those who either purchased or encroached upon Government or assigned land. These lands are to be surrendered by filling up an application in the prescribed format on or before April 28, a press release here said.-Staff Reporter

Stolen motorcycles recovered, 3 nabbed

TIRUPATI: The Tirupati crime sleuths recovered 15 motorcycles stolen from various parts of the city and also arrested three persons -- S. Tirumala (23), K. Kumar (23) and T. Navin Kumar (20) --in this connection.

Woman stabbed to death

KURNOOL: A woman identified as Golusamma was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband at Bairlutigudem in Kurnool district on Tuesday. Domestic discord is said to be the reason for the crime. Special Correspondent

Village servants seek alms in protest

KADAPA: Village servants collected `alms' from people in Galiveedu on Monday demanding enhancement of monthly pay to Rs. 3,000 and hike in DA to Rs. 50. Six killed in accident

Madanapalle: Six persons, B.S.Ramesh (38), his wife Bhagyalakshmi (35), their son Tanay (2), Manoj (15), Sivaji (20) and driver Nagaraj (35), were killed on the spot after the car in which they were travelling was involved in an accident at Sadasivanagar Darji forest area of Kamareddy division of Nizamabad district on Monday. B.S.Ramesh, a native of Madanapalle, was employed with Super Agro Seeds Co. in Hyderabad. Ramesh's sister Sailaja, her husband, Krishnamoorthy, and their daughter, Laya, received serious injuries and are being treated at a Nizamabad hospital.

Change in coach names

HYDERABAD: The South Central Railway will effect a change in the nomenclature of passenger coaches for easy identification from July 1.

A press release said on Tuesday that the changes would be from AS-1 to B-1 (for AC three-tier), SL-1 to D-1 (second class sitting), EC-1 to E-1 (executive class), GC-1 to J-1 (Garib Rath Chair Car). There will be no change in the abbreviations of other classes. — Special Correspondent

Urdu conference

Hyderabad: The All India Urdu Educational Committee will hold a State level conference on the problems of Urdu education, language and literature on April 13 at Indira Priyadarshini Government P.G. College for Women, Nampally. The conference will discuss problems of Urdu education, publishing and printing of text books and introduction of Urdu as first language in all educational institutions, including Kendriya Vidyalayas, according to a press release. — Staff Reporter

2 students drowned

ADILABAD: Md. Khaliq and Irfan, both class VIII students from Mahalaxmiwada in Adilabad town drowned in the Anukunta stream on Tuesday. The two had gone to the stream for a swim. Rural police registered a case. — Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Idea Cellular Ltd on Tuesday announced the launch of a new product. With a recharge of Rs. 996, a customer can call any mobile phone within Andhra Pradesh at Re. 1 per minute. Besides, the customer will also get lifelong unlimited validity. Customers can further reduce their call rates to 0.50 paise per minute and one paise per SMS by buying top-up packs. Chief Operation Officer of Idea-AP circle Subbaraman Iyer said that the existing lifelong customers could migrate to the new plan with no extra cost by sending an SMS "LIFELONG PLUS" to 4444. — Special Correspondent

Paritala case adjourned

ANANTPAUR: Paritala Ravindra murder case was adjourned to April 18 by the District and Sessions Court here on Tuesday as none of the 13 accused could be produced in the court due to unavailability of police personnel as escort. Trial in the case is yet to commence. The trial is being delayed mainly due to the delay in engaging of counsel by a few of the accused. — Staff Reporter
