HYDERABAD: British e-Government Minister Pat McFadden on Tuesday appreciated the use of information technology by the State Government for improving public services. Mr. McFadden, who interacted with IT Secretary S.K. Joshi and visited an eSeva centre here on Monday, said using information technology for providing public services was "good thing" as it helped people pay different bills at a single place. He said the key issue was using IT to improve public services, adding the Government seemed to be committed in doing it efficiently. There was a great interest abroad about the expertise and growth of IT in India, he told The Hindu . The Minister visited the National Institute of Smart Governance (NISG), Centre for Good Governance and had a luncheon meeting with representatives of several IT companies.
Sharing experiences
Replying to a question, Mr. McFadden said that he had not discussed the possibility of any collaborative projects, but shared the experiences of the UK and State Governments on how IT could be used to improve public services. British Deputy High Commissioner Mike Connor said the Minister had discussions with Mr. Joshi on the Government's IT strategy and e-governance policies.
