To take up the issue with Manmohan

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has condemned the lathicharge by the Maharashtra police on Telugu Desam leaders.

Speaking to reporters, Dr. Reddy and Major Irrigation Minister P. Lakshmaiah described the incident as "unfortunate". The Chief Minister said he would bring the incident to the notice of the Prime Minister.

He expressed solidarity with the Telugu Desam over its plan to observe protest rallies in five districts of Telangana on Wednesday against the lathicharge as a State issue was involved. `Unforgivable offence'

Dr. Reddy termed the construction of Babli dam as "an illegal and unforgivable offence" committed by Maharashtra.

State BJP president Bandaru Dattatreya and CPI State secretary K. Narayana too condemned the lathi-charge and sought Centre's immediate intervention in the matter.
