HYDERABAD: Power cut on domestic consumers across villages and towns in the State will be lifted in a phased manner from April 20.

Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy issued instructions to this effect to

APTransco CMD Rachel Chatterjee while interacting with district Collectors during a video-conference here on Tuesday, preparing them for Prajapatham programme from April 14.

As he reviewed power supply situation with reference to 7-hour supply to agriculture sector, Ms Chatterjee said the cut was now implemented for six hours a day for domestic consumers and industries in both urban and rural areas, except major cities like Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.

The cut could be ended from April 20 following reduction in agriculture load as the rabi season by then would come to a close.

    Caution on borewell

The Chief Minister asked the Collectors to take whatever steps required to ensure drinking water to villages during summer, but cautioned them against sinking new borewells citing high failure rate. Instead, he instructed them to undertake transportation by tankers, and hire private wells.

The Collectors were asked to immediately clear all the bills pending against the works identified during the last Prajapatham and completed later.

Dr. Reddy asked the Collectors to bring out brochures with colour illustrations on the developmental works completed in the last three years, "as a new responsibility", and warned that he would verify their efforts in this respect during his Prajapatham visits.

Chief Secretary J. Hari Narayan prioritised weaker sections welfare, drinking water, power supply, implementation of Employment Guarantee Scheme, Indira Kranti Pathakam with focus on Pavala Vaddi, housing under Indiramma programme. Eight Ministers, including K. Rosaiah (Finance), and senior officers were present.

    Houses by May

The Chief Minister wanted houses taken up under Indiramma to be completed by May-end as monsoon, once set, would hamper works.
