KOTTAYAM: The Kottayam district panchayat has registered 86.31 per cent achievement in project implementation targets. Addressing a press conference, district panchayat president K.P. Sugunan said that during four years of United Democratic Front (UDF) rule, the district had registered achievement of 34.63 per cent, 47.37 per cent, 43.12 per cent and 5.19 per cent. On account of this, it had lost Rs.28.5 crore during the period, he said. This year, the district had spent Rs.10.67 crore of the Rs.12.36 crore fund allocation, he said. The most important achievement during the past year was that the panchayat spent 100 per cent of the amount earmarked for the Special Component Plan (SCP) and the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP), Mr Sugunan said. Hundred per cent achievement was recorded in roads maintenance. The panchayat helped modernise 20 Government schools and also provide TV sets to all higher secondary schools so that they would be able to make use of the EDUSAT programmes.
