Belur taluk included in new SHG scheme

HASSAN: Belur taluk in Hassan district has been included in a new scheme for self-help groups that was announced by Minister for Women and Child Development H.K. Kumaraswamy at a function in Mangalore recently. The survey would begin soon.

Speaking to The Hindu, Vasanthi Uppar, project officer in-charge of rehabilitation of physically challenged, Hassan, gave details of the scheme. The scheme is known as Spoorthy Swa Sahaya Sangha (Spoorthy Self-Help Group) wherein 10 groups in each taluk, where the project is sanctioned, would be formed. In each of these group there would be 10-15 physically challenged persons.

Ms. Uppar said once the group was formed, they would be given training in a particular trade according to their interest.

It would mainly be handicraft and once the goods are produced, the Government will make arrangements to market them.

Financial assistance

In addition, they would be provided with financial assistance of Rs. 25,000 each.

Ms. Uppar said she would start identifying the physically impaired and training would begin from May 1. Those interested can contact Ms. Uppar at the office located in K.R. Puram.
