Survey on illegal mining

BANGALORE:
Minister for Forests C. Chennigappa on Tuesday said the survey by the State Government regarding illegal mining on forestland would be completed in about four months.
Replying to Congress member K. Pratapchandra Shetty in the Legislative Council, the Minister said the Government would be in a position to assess the exact quantum of illegal mining as well as the loss to the exchequer, after the completion of this survey.
Cases
To another question, he said the government had booked 18,359 cases of offence in various Range Forest Offices during 2003-04, 20,476 cases in 2004-05 and 15,622 cases in 2005-06.
