Staff Reporter
CHENNAI
: Immigration authorities on Tuesday morning detained five Sri Lankan nationals, including two women, who were on their way to board an Air France flight at the Anna International Terminal.
The authorities identified the passengers as A. M. Malin Chaminda (27), S. W. Irosha Nuwanthi (20), L.Sumudhu Surath Sanjeewa (27), D.S.Titus Punny Yasiri (45) and R. A. Rose Priyanthi (24).
They said the five were planning to go to Italy and when they arrived at the Immigration counter they were found holding fake Italian Residential Permits.
Sri Lankan Tamils are known to adopt a similar technique to reach European countries.
Now, even the Sinhalese had started adopting this technique to migrate, the Immigration authorities added.
