GUNTUR: The job mela organised by the Department of Youth Affairs on Tuesday to fill over 10,000 posts in the proposed spinning mills witnessed an unprecedented response, with more than 3,000 applicants queuing up for 1,060 posts in the technical category. In-charge Collector Rahul Bojja inaugurated the mela. The interviews were held at the Cotton Association Hall at Lakhsmipuram.

"We have received 2,270 applications for 1,060 posts in the technical category. All the applications are being computerised and short-listed. Priority will be given for experienced candidates. We hope to complete the selection process by April 15," Society for Training Employment Promotion (STEP) Chief Executive Officer V. Mark said.

Non-technical category

The interviews were held for filling of vacant posts of fitters, electricians, quality control officers etc.

Many of the applicants had come from far-off places along with their parents and spouses.

The interviews for filling 9,000 posts in the non-technical category would be held on April 20, he said.

Meanwhile, complaints were galore from some of the applicants over the arrangements made for conducting the job mela. Some of the applicants said that they had come prepared for an interview, but were told that call letters would be sent. Complaints also poured in over the lack of proper arrangements on the premises.

However, officials brushed aside the complaints.

They said that meals were provided to all the applicants. Shaminias were also erected to provide shade to the applicants attending the session, Mr. Mark said.
