Bangalore: Singapore Minister for Education and Second Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam inaugurated here on Tuesday "Navigator," the 4,00,000 sq.ft. sixth building at International Tech Park Bangalore (ITPB), near Whitefield.

"The Tech Park stands as an example of cooperation between India and Singapore and especially, Bangalore, Asia's information technology hub. The facility has inspired similar tech parks over the past 10 years, including those in China, built by the same promoters, Ascendas," he said.

Speaking on behalf of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj Horatti said last year the largest office space of 14.2 million sq ft was occupied in Bangalore, second only to Tokyo in Asia, according to reports in international journals.

The State accounted for over 30 per cent of IT-related exports.

"The 10,000-acre proposed satellite township at Bidadi near Bangalore will also be IT oriented,'' he said.

Ascendas India CEO Jonathan Yapp said the new facility that can accommodate up to 4,000 employees already enjoyed 80 per cent occupancy. Addressing the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) earlier along with a Singapore trade delegation, Mr. Shanmugaratnam said: "Singapore and Bangalore have much in common; both have emerged as knowledge capitals attracting overseas investors. For Indian companies, Singapore can be a gateway to business in the ASEAN, China and Japan."
