In response to the Public Eye feature on the woes of parents vis-à-vis school admissions, G.S. Narayanan of 4th T. Block, Jayanagar, says: The issue of school admissions taken up is very apt and timely. The photo of parents and their wards sleeping on the pavement speaks volumes about the problem. To overcome this, we can take a lesson or two from Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra where proximity of children's residence to schools is given priority. Authorities there have the power to direct schools to admit children in their jurisdiction. The schools of the Government and the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, the appearance of which itself is nauseating, should be run like private schools. Or the Government should allow more private schools to come up and keep a strict watch on how they are run.
