HYDERABAD: A wave of panic gripped the vast campus of Research Centre Imarat (RCI) on city outskirts, after a pack of dogs attacked as many as eight persons, including four children on Tuesday morning. Those bitten by the dogs were rushed to different hospitals in the vicinity, including the Apollo DRDO branch. RCI residents had to wait in anxiety as the local municipality did not have the wherewithal to rush to the aid of the residents. It was ultimately left to the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) to send some dog catchers. Parents who went to the Defence Lab School on the campus to take their children home, had to carry sticks to ward off attacks by the canines. "It was a scary situation. Four of those bitten were children. Two were studying in LKG and UKG respectively," an RCI resident told The Hindu on telephone.
Dog squad
The residents said that with the dogs going berserk, they called up the Blue Cross, but were asked to contact the MCH. The corporation control room, initially, maintained that the RCI campus was not in their limits, but with repeated calls coming from residents, authorities rushed a dog squad to the campus "on humanitarian grounds".
Attacks
The dog attacks on RCI campus come in the backdrop of seven students and an ayah being bitten by dogs on the campus of University College for Women in Kothi just a day earlier.
